My name is Dawn Hallybone & I am a gamer.

Teaching with video games in primary education.

Award-winning teacher, Dawn Hallybone, Oakdale Junior School, presents her work where she has integrated gaming and commercial video game technology within her teaching practice which is shared amongst other practitioners through a network of schools. Dawn presents evidence of how the use of gaming technology is motivating learners and improving outcomes.

    Dawn asked put your hand up if you are a gamer - just about the whole assembly (at least the pupils) put there hands up.

    she talked about playful learning and highlighted how handheld devices such as the Nintendo DS (used in her school as a brain training tool) and games such as Professor Layton puzzle adventure stories can be used to inspire kids to learn a range of key skills such as literacy, numeracy, problem solving, team working and interpersonal communication.

    Dawn discussed using Nintendo DS & Wii with the pupils are so engaged in their learning that Dawn doesn’t really need to be greatly involved for large parts of the lessons
